Beach end of Montana Road, opposite Mermaid Beach SLSC
Description of area:
The site is currently located at the beach end of Montana Road, opposite Mermaid Beach SLSC. There is a car park, SLSC assets, beach access fencing and residential properties adjacent to the site.
To improve the health and biodiversity assets of the foredunes, as well as engage community members about the importance of dune vegetation.
A community dune care group was established after an industry community engagement day, which was designed to encourage community participation and increase awareness of the importance of dunes and dune vegetation. Community planting and weeding activities are facilitated by BeachCare on the third Saturday of every second month. The site was originally opposite the Mermaid Beach Surf Lifesaving Club, the beach end of Montana Road, which was then moved to Peerless Ave for over two years. BeachCare will now be facilitating community dune care activities on the dunes again at the beach end of Montana Road for 2012.
Everyone is always welcome to come along to BeachCare community days; no experience necessary, all ages and fitness, bring along a hat, wear sunscreen, all equipment and refreshments are supplied.
