The Gold Coast Catchment Association is fundamentally a network of “doers”; a network of people involved in actual work on the ground to improve the Gold Coast’s environment.
However much of this work would not be possible without the support and co-ordination of organisations such as Gold Coast City Council, SEQ Catchments NRM Group and the Griffith Centre for Coastal Management.
There is also an increasing trend of professional environmental restoration companies, funded by government and grants, to work with community groups. This provides a great mix of community enthusiasm and commercial efficiency. We get community support and education and at the same time the professional companies are rapidly restoring large areas which would be impossible to achieve by the community alone.
The reality is, if we are going to make a significant difference to catchments, we will need to develop three way partnerships between the community, government and private restoration companies.
