The Coomera River Catchment Group is made up of local residents from all areas of the catchment who take part in a variety of volunteer activities to protect the river’s environmental values.
The group has over 20 members who have been working tirelessly on several projects such as restoring denuded banks of tributaries in the Coomera River Catchment by organising weeding and planting days for the community. The members also assist at school plantings and carry out regular waterway health monitoring in tributaries such as Clagiraba Creek, Yaun Creek, Wongawallen Creek, Guanaba Creek and of course the Coomera River.
The key actions by the group include:
- water quality monitoring
- community planting days to revegetate around the lake and stormwater inlets using low native wetland plants to help filter stormwater run off
- seasonal bird surveys
- engaging local residents to become involved
- information days.
